Yes, the entire site was wiped. I am working on bringing it back to life. Please be patient with me.

The 8th Infantry Division

a.k.a. "The Pathfinders" and the "The Golden Arrow" Division

The 8th Infantry Division is one of the few Regular Army divisions that has served our country. Although not as well known as other units, the 8th played an important role in WW2, and on into the cold war. It was inactivated on 17 Jan 1992.

"In the (Huertgen) forest proper, our gains came inch by inch and foot by foot, delivered by men with rifles-bayonets on one end and grim, resolute courage on the other. There was no battle of Europe more devastating, frustrating, or gory. -Maj Gen. William G Weaver, Commanding General, 8th Infantry Division

WW2 Battle Histories

Please Note:

This site is a labor of love. I fully intend to add to it as I have the time. Sadly, my time is limited that it will be a long slow process. I'd love to make all the printed unit histories available on line, as vets and relatives should not have to spend money to buy their own history, but I am a slow typist and OCR's work only so well. If anyone wants to help work on the site by turning printed pages into computer text, or by doing some html, please drop me a line. The sad fact of life is one has either time, or money, but never both. If you want to write your memories of being in the 8th, please do so- and email them to me as either regular email or an attachment. AND be sure to give me permission to post them in your note.
