The insignia is a red shield (for artillery). The mule symbolizes Missouri- where the unit was allocated when inactive. Design approved 19 May 1937
56th FieldArtillery Battalion A short history of the 56th F.A. Bn in WW2
Motto: "Accuracy and Speed"
There's a lot of
confusion about the correct insignia and motto for this unit. This insignia is
for the post WW2 56th F. A. BRIGADE. Their motto was "night hides not." The
shield is red for artillery. The searchlight beams and winged projectile
symbolize the parent organizations (44th Coast Artillery and 506th Antiaircraft
Artillery))
